Woman held for immigration fraud

The Chandigarh Police have arrested a woman accused of duping clients of an immigration firm by promising work visas and issuing fake offer letters. A case was registered on Saturday at Police Station-19 on the complaint of Navpreet Kaur, who alleged that former employee Neha Bhagotra (29) , also known as Aastha, misappropriated about Rs 8,09,000 from clients by transferring the money into multiple accounts.

The accused a resident of Old Sunny Enclave, Mohali, allegedly took the money on the pretext of arranging overseas employment.

Acting promptly, the police apprehended her after securing permission from the court.

On Sunday, investigators obtained a two-day police remand to trace the flow of the siphoned funds, identify other possible beneficiaries and recover the mobile phone used to facilitate the fraud.

Police officials stated that the investigation is on and assured strict action against individuals involved in exploiting citizens seeking opportunities abroad.
