Chandigarh, July 11
A 35-year-old Mohali resident has been arrested for duping a woman on the pretext of providing her job.
The suspect has been identified as Naresh Kumar of Desumajra village. He was produced in a court, which remanded him in a two-day police custody.
The police said the victim, Sejal Dhanta, had received a call from an auto firm and was told that she had been shortlisted for a job. She was asked on the phone to submit her documents and pay Rs 1,000. She was also asked to pay Rs 2,000 for the interview, which she paid.
The victim was told that she would be getting the appointment letter, but for that she had to pay Rs 6,000 more to the suspect. After paying the money, no letter was given to her and the caller blocked her mobile number. She had paid through Google Pay.
