Panchkula, August 6

A 24-year-old woman, Priya, a resident of Rathpur Colony in Pinjore, has claimed that she lost Rs 48,899 in two online frauds after she ordered rakhi for her brother, who lives in Noida. She filed a complaint in this regard at the Pinjore police station.

According to the complainant, two persons, in the guise of customer care representatives of Flipkart and Axis Bank, obtained her personal details by hacking her smartphone.

The FIR said the victim ordered a rakhi costing Rs150 on July 31 from Flipkart. It was supposed to be delivered by August 6, three days after the festival. Hence, she tried looking for a customer care representative of the company to get it delivered before Raksha Bandhan, but fell victim to the cyberfraud.

The fraudsters asked her to follow their directions, after which she lost Rs48,899 in three separate transactions.

A case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Pinjore police station. —TNS
