The Chandigarh Mahila Congress celebrated the 40th Foundation Day of Indian Women Congress under the leadership of local president Nandini Hooda in Sector 35 here. The programme was presided over by MP Manish Tewari and city Congress president HS Lucky. All India Mahila Congress general secretary Neetu Verma was also present on the occasion.

Addressing women workers, Tewari said, “When the Chandigarh Administration rejects every demand on need-based changes in the city, sends notices to entrepreneurs and businessmen to impose heavy penalties or does not give ownership rights to the houses allotted to the poor, then women suffer the most.” He urged the Administration to keep human aspects in mind while taking decisions.

Lucky said, “We will soon be able to recruit at least 20 women at every booth.”

Hooda said, “The participation of women in the Congress has been very important in the Indian freedom struggle. Whether it is Rani Lakshmibai, Sarojini Naidu, Kamala Nehru, Aruna Asaf Ali or Usha Mehta, the incomparable contribution of all these great personalities is recorded in golden letters in our history.”
