Work diligently to tackle flood situation in district: Panchkula DC

Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta has directed officials of all departments to work with utmost seriousness to tackle any potential flood situation during the monsoon season, warning that negligence will not be tolerated. She said the aim must be to prevent any untoward incident and ensure the safety of residents.

Chairing a meeting to review flood-control measures on Tuesday, the DC instructed the Irrigation Department to provide regular updates on river water levels and ensure continuous monitoring. She also urged officials, including the Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineers, to complete departmental tasks at the earliest to avoid inconvenience to the public. Municipal bodies were directed to carry out regular cleaning of drains to facilitate proper water disposal.

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed resources available with the district administration, NDRF and the Army, and instructed officials to remain prepared for emergencies. She also took detailed information about the cleaning of drains and nullahs in Kalka.

She urged people to avoid going near rivers and drains during the rainy season and to take precautions to prevent accidents. Officials of the Irrigation Department and the police were instructed to install warning signboards at vulnerable points. Police officials were further directed to intensify patrolling, set up checkpoints in accident-prone areas, and alert the public.

She also issued direction to the Irrigation Department to install indicator boards at waterlogging sites.

The DC also reviewed preparations in mountainous areas, where landslides and road erosion occur during heavy rains. PWD officials informed her that JCB machines and pipes had been deployed in Morni, Raipur Rani and Thapli, with staff posted at all critical points.

Reviewing disaster management measures, Gupta instructed the Health Department to maintain sufficient stock of medicines and injections to tackle diseases like dengue and malaria at primary health centres. She further directed the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure water supply in villages facing disruption through tankers.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Nisha Yadav, SDMs Chandrakant Kataria and Sanyam Garg, MC Joint Commissioner Gaurav Chauhan and City Magistrate Jagriti were present at the meeting.
