Workshop on AI, robotics concludes at Panjab varsity

A three-day workshop on AI, CAD Modeling and Robotics concluded at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University, today. The workshop on “Hands-On AI, CAD Modeling, and Robotics for Advanced Engineering Solutions” was organised by the Sensor Energy and Automation Lab (SEAL), UIET, under the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development’s SPARC initiative.

The hands-on workshop provided participants with essential skill sets in the domains of Artificial Intelligence, Computer-Aided Design modeling and robotics.

Teams of participants successfully developed four innovative projects, including a six-axis robotic arm, a face recognition locking system, an auto-aim bot and a palm-gesture-controlled robotic arm end effector. These projects were demonstrated to dignitaries and faculty members during the workshop’s concluding session.

PU Dean of International Students Prof Kewal Krishan was chief guest at the valedictory function. In his address, he highlighted the transformative potential of AI and shared insights from his team research on an AI-based model for identifying real and forged signatures, emphasising its significance in addressing real-world challenges.

Prof Sanjeev Puri, Director, UIET, expressed his satisfaction with the workshop’s outcomes and encouraged the SEAL team to make the event an annual feature.

Prof Manu Sharma, Director, CIIPP, and TEC Co-ordinator, Panjab University, along with his team, shared a range of industrial problems identified by their group with the workshop participants. These challenges highlight the need for critical skill sets in AI, CAD modeling and robotics. The TEC team encouraged participants to apply their newly acquired skills to tackle these real-world industrial problems, emphasising the importance of translating learning into impactful solutions.

The workshop was coordinated by Gaurav Sapra, Prof Rajesh Kumar and Garima Joshi from UIET in collaboration with Ankur Gupta from the Department of Cardiology, PGIMER, and Prof Mohsen Rahmani and Dr Cuifeng Ying from Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK.
