The City Beautiful celebrated the eight International Day of Yoga at 75 different locations, including the main event at Rock Garden today.

Som Prakash, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, was the guest of honour and Banwarilal Purohit, UT Administrator, was the chief guest at the event.

Dharam Pal, UT Adviser, Praveer Ranjan, DGP, Manmeet Kaur Nanda, Joint Secretary, Government of India, and other senior officers also participated in the yoga progamme on this occasion.

The Administrator highlighted the importance of yoga because better health was the key for success. “All should adopt the yoga as a way of life,” he said. “A small time out of the daily routine improves the productivity and results in better management of time and stress,” he added.

Som Parkash said, “From 2015 onward yoga has reached almost all countries. The Central Government is making all out efforts so that yoga reaches all individuals.”

The theme of this year’s Yoga Day celebrations is, “Yoga for humanity”. People across the globe perform yoga in unison to highlight the importance of health and wellbeing. The grand event saw the participation of 2,200 participants from across the city. As India celebrates 75 years of Independence, the UT Administration decided to perform yoga at 75 different locations with total participation of 2,700.

Participants from all walks of life were seen stretching and bending in diverse yoga poses. They also witnessed the live streaming of the Prime Minister’s address from Mysuru where he highlighted that yoga brings peace not only for individuals, but also for nations and the world.

Visually impaired students of the Institute of Blind also celebrated the Yoga Day wherein they performed yoga at their respective hometowns due to ongoing summer break.

The Government College of Yoga Education and Health, Sector 23, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chandigarh, Outreach Bureau and ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, Panjab University, and Department of Social Welfare, UT Administration, organised a programme “Health, harmony and happiness: A yogic way”.

BSF celebrates Yoga Day

The eighth International Day of Yoga was celebrated by BSF troops and their families at Lakhnaur, Mohali. The function, presided over by PV Rama Sastry, ADG, BSF (Western Command), began with listening of the live address of the PM Narendra Modi from Mysuru.

BBMB holds sessions, seminars to mark day

The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) observed the eight International Day of Yoga by holding sessions and seminars at its various project sites today. A yoga session was organised under the guidance of yoga instructor, Dr Baljeet Singh, here today in which the BBMB chairman, Sanjay Srivastava, the member (Power), Harminder Singh Chugh, and other staff members participated.

Army formations hold mass event

The eight International Day of Yoga was observed by Headquarters, Western Command, by holding a mass event at Chandimandir military station in which 1,000 personnel and their family members took part. The Kharga Corps and formations under its command in Ambala, Chandigarh, Patiala and Meerut military stations also observed the day on a grand scale.

Legal eagles do yoga at District Courts

Yoga instructor of the Department of Aayush, UT Administration, gave training to participants on the court premises during Yoga Day celebrations.

PGI staff practise yoga

The eight International Day of Yoga celebrations were organised by the PGI’s ‘CCRYN-Collaborative Centre for Mind Body Intervention through Yoga’ with participation of more than 150 HCWs. Around 60 nodal persons of each department participated and learnt finer techniques of rejuvenating oneself at work by practising yoga Y-break.

Programmes organised at GMCH-32, GRIID-31

On the eve of Yoga Day celebrations, yoga programmes were held at GMCH-32, and GRIID-31, here today. The programme was organised at Block-E at Level-1 (Lobby area) and Level-VII. More than 600 staff and students participated the function from 5.30 am till its conclusion with National Anthem at 7.50 am.

Cong leaders perform yoga near dumping ground

The Chandigarh Congress today celebrated International Day of Yoga by performing ‘asanas’ near the Dadu Majra waste dumping ground today. “The dumping ground site, which has become a permanent eyesore of Chandigarh, was specially chosen to highlight the deplorable civic conditions in City Beautiful,” stated a Congress statement.

Yoga connects people of all countries: Hry Speaker

An International Day of Yoga programme was held at Parade Ground, Sector 5, Panchkula, today. On the occasion, Haryana Speaker Gian Chand Gupta said yoga was working to connect people and countries. Deputy Commissioner Mahavir Kaushik urged people to adopt yoga in their daily life.

It not only helps in physical development and mental relaxation, but also develops strength, flexibility and immunity, Justice Augustine George Masih asserted as the Punjab and Haryana High Court celebrated the International Day of Yoga Day on the court HC premises today. As per available information the Yoga Day was celebrated under the aegis of Justice Ravi Shanker Jha, the Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court, in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court and Department of Justice.
