Chandigarh, July 27
Members of the Chandigarh Youth Congress today protested outside the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Sector 18 here. They were miffed at party chief Sonia Gandhi’s questioning by the directorate.
The police detained the protesters as they tried to enter the ED office. They were let off later.
The protesters shouted slogans against the ED and the Narendra Modi-led Central government, as Sonia Gandhi appeared before the directorate in Delhi for the third round of questioning in a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper.
City Youth Congress president Manoj Lubana, who led the protest, said, “Repress us or arrest us, our spirits will not be broken. The dictatorship of BJP is now out in the open. We cannot discuss important issues in Parliament or raise people’s issues on the street. The government wants to suppress the Opposition through the police and agencies.”
Party leaders Navdeep Singh, Harman Jassar and Lovely Thakur were among those detained.
