Youth dies as SUV rams into tree in Sec 34
A 19-year-old youth, Rounak, was killed and three others were injured when a speeding SUV (Thar) collided with a tree in Sector 34 last night.
Rounak, a resident of Mohali, along with his friends Aryak, a Sector 21 resident; Dhanajay and Vinayak, both from Ambala, had gone for dinner at a restaurant in Sector 34. While returning, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed the SUV into a tree. The front part of the vehicle was completely damaged. Hearing the loud sound, local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police about the accident.
All injured were rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared Rounak dead on arrival. The condition of Aryak, who was sitting on the front passenger seat, is said to be critical. Dhananjay and Vinayak, who were sitting behind, suffered minor injuries. The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.
The police have registered a case and started investigation. Speeding and negligence are believed to be the main reasons for the accident, said a police officer.
