Youth duped of Rs 8.22 lakh over Diljit concert tickets
Five persons have been booked by the UT police for allegedly duping a youth of Rs 8.22 lakh under the pretext of selling him 98 tickets of Diljit Dosanjh’s concert, which was held at Sector 34 in December last year.
The complainant, 21-year-old Sanskar Rawat from Zirakpur, stated that his friend, Parv Kumar, a resident of Sector 42, introduced him to a group of five persons, who claimed they could provide tickets for the concert. Rawat agreed to purchase 98 tickets, including 17 “fan pit” tickets, three silver and 78 gold ones. On September 19, he transferred Rs 96,000 via UPI to Parv as an initial payment.
Parv later introduced Rawat to Vardaan Mann, who assured him that the tickets would be delivered by December 11. Trusting Mann’s promise, Rawat transferred about Rs 7 lakh to him. He also sent Rs 43,000 to Akshdeep Singh, Rs 44,500 to Vineet Paul and Rs 2,000 to Rohan Singh.
However, the accused failed to provide him with the tickets as promised. On December 9, Mann gave Rawat one genuine ticket. On the day of the concert, the accused asked him to meet near the ISBT, Sector 17, and gave him eight more tickets. When Rawat and his friends arrived at the concert venue, they were shocked to discover that the eight tickets were fake. The bouncers at the entry gate tore six of them, but Rawat managed to keep two as evidence.
The victim informed the police about the incident. The police carried out an investigation and has now registered a case at the Sector 17 police station.
