Youth held for stealing patient’s bag, jewellery at Panchkula hospital

The police analysed CCTV footage from the hospital premises to nab the accused

The police arrested a 25-year-old man for the recent theft at the Civil Hospital in Sector 6.

The arrested individual has been identified as Amit Kumar alias Billi, son of Ashok Kumar, a 25-year-old resident of Bapoli village, Shahzadpur in Ambala district. Upon search, police recovered Rs 13,000 in cash, a leather bag, a pair of silver anklets, and two silver rings from his possession.

The complainant, Dikshit Sharma, son of Dharmpal and a resident of Belwali village reported that on April 17, his wife Monika had given birth to a child at the Sector 6 hospital. After being discharged, while preparing to return home and checking their belongings, they discovered that one of their bags was missing.

According to the complaint, the stolen bag contained Monika’s mobile phone, Rs 15,000 in cash, a silver chain, two silver rings, and important documents.

A case had at the time been registered at Police Station Sector 7 under Sections 305 and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The Panchkula Detective Staff, investigating the matter, first analysed CCTV footage from the hospital premises and questioned several individuals present at the scene. With technical support from the Cyber Cell, the accused’s mobile location was traced, leading police to apprehend him near Shahzadpur.

The accused Amit Kumar was produced before the court and has been remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
