Chandigarh: An 18-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly snatching a purse at Mauli Jagran village. He was nabbed at the spot by people and handed over to the police. Complainant Ganga Ram Sharma reported that a pedestrian had snatched his purse containing Rs 1,200 and documents from near his house on January 4. The victim raised the alarm. The suspect was caught at the spot and the police were informed about the incident. The suspect was later identified as Sawan, a resident of Indira Colony, Sector 17, Panchkula. The police have registered a case against him at the Mauli Jagran police station. TNS
Met predicts rain for 3 days
Chandigarh: The Met Department has predicted rain in the city for three days from Monday. Officials said there were chances of rain on Monday and Tuesday, while it was expected to drizzle on Wednesday. Thereafter, the weather was expected to be sunny for the next few days. TNS
Neighbour beats up woman, held
Chandigarh: A Sector 38 resident has been arrested by the police for allegedly threatening and beating up a woman. The victim alleged that her neighbour, Ram Chander, quarrelled and threatened her at her house on January 4. The police were informed and a case under Sections 323, 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against him at the Sector 39 police station. TNS
Nature Walk in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Natural Biodiversity, an online group working for research and documentation of biodiversity and its related issues, organised a nature/photo walk, in collaboration with TPAS, Photomania, Social Substance and Forest Hill Resort. As many as 50 participants walked for four hours on trails in the forest hill resort near Naya Gaon, Mohali, to document the flora and fauna and bond with nature. The group is based on crowdsourcing concept where resources from all spheres of life come together for the cause. The group is accessible on Facebook and has more than 8,OOO from 91 countries across the globe. It has about 80, 000 photographs mentioned with date and place to understand the habitat and niche. The participants included professional photographers, doctors, engineers, homemakers and kids. Dr Arun Bansal from the PU said the group clicked hundreds of photographs and was delighted to be a part of the walk. Dr Upendra Goswami, PGI, said his daughter has learnt a lot from the trip. Participant Parveen Jaggi said he would consider the trip as ‘Reiki’. The event was marked as success by all stakeholders. TNS
Biorisk mgmt workshop
Chandigarh: Three-day workshops on ‘Foundational and laboratory-level biorisk management’ were organised at the Department of Biotechnology, PU, in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratories, USA. The workshop was attended by faculty from the PU, local colleges, medical doctors and the research scholars working in the area of biological Sciences. According to Prof Neena Capalash, workshop organiser, the main purpose of the activity-based workshop was to enable the participants understand laboratory biosafety and biosecurity issues associated with microbial pathogens and other biological materials used in the research laboratories and clinical set-ups.
