A daily wager was stoned to death by his friend in a drunken brawl at a shed in a park opposite the Sector 71 booth market in the wee hours of Saturday.
Victim Raju, 22, was found in a pool of blood with injuries on head, face and other parts of the body.
On a complaint of the victim’s father-in-law Shri Ram, a resident of Mataur and originally hailing from Sitapur in UP, the police registered a murder case against unidentified person. Later, the victim’s friend Arjun, 22, a local resident, was arrested for the crime.
Mataur SHO Amandeep Kamboj said the duo was consuming liquor in the shed when arguments broke out. Raju allegedly abused and scuffled with the suspect after which Arjun hit him with a brick repeatedly. The suspect later fled the spot.
The police said the body had been shifted to the mortuary of the Phase-6 Civil Hospital where the post-mortem examination would be conducted on Sunday.
