Residents in some parts of the town today had a tough time as there was no power supply for about 10 hours.

Sharing his ordeal, a resident of Garden Villa, Singhpura, said: “There was no power supply since 8:15 am. The supply was restored after 6 pm. No local power officials were responding. We had a tough time managing our daily routine.”

Mandeep of Nagla said: “Our inverter batteries were completely drained. Most of us work from home. Owing to the power shutdown, it was another bad day.”

Residents demanded such long power shutdowns should be avoided. And if there were some scheduled cuts, they should be informed in advance.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
