Zirakpur, July 19
Twenty proposals were passed at a House meeting of the local Municipal Council, which took place after about three months. New Executive Officer Ravneet Singh read out the proposals and approved them.
The issue of waterlogging in the city dominated the meeting as several councillors raised questions over the cleaning of drains and sewers in their wards. The issue of “substandard tiles” being laid in Ward No. 18 was also raised. Ward No.5 councillor Neha Sharma alleged that despite several reminders, no clearing of drains was carried out in her area.
The council unanimously cleared the appointment of a lawyer to pursue court cases against the civic body. The House also agreed to engage four e-rickshaws for fogging and two for sanitation work. The issue of five star rating to the civic body was discussed in detail. It was decided that the MC would take over the Lohgarh tubewell. The extension and renewal of contracts of employees, drivers and sanitation workers was unanimously approved at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by MC president Udayvir Singh Dhillon and Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Randhawa. Randhawa urged the councillors to work unitedly for the betterment of the city.
