Zirakpur MC: No-trust move fizzles out, 21 councillors skip meet

High drama prevailed at the Zirakpur Municipal Council this afternoon during the special meeting called by MC president Udayvir Singh Dhillon. The meeting was called after a no-confidence motion was move by 21 councillors, including those of the ruling Congress, . A total of seven councillors showed up at the meeting along with the MC president, whereas the rest of the councillors were nowhere to be found.
About 30 minutes later, at around 3.40 pm, the Executive Officer, Ashok Pathriya, communicated to the MC president that the meeting would have to be rescheduled due to the lack of adequate security arrangements at the venue. Dhillon had earlier approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions to make adequate security arrangements to maintain law and order within the 200 metres of the building and videography of the entire proceedings of the meeting on July 5. After receiving the letter in the meeting room, Dhillon said he was satisfied with the security arrangement, adding that the meeting would have to take place today.
On the other hand, SAD councillor Yadvinder Sharma said that the agenda for the meeting was received yesterday. “According to the rules, the agenda must be communicated at least 48 hours prior to the meeting. The president needs to follow all the rules and call another meeting. All 21 councillors that have moved the no-trust motion in writing will be present in the meeting.”
