In the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, Postgraduate ((NEET-PG)) results declared recently, a tricity lad, Dr Vaibhav Garg of Zirakpur, has made his family proud by attaining All-India Rank 1.

Vaibhav completed his matriculation from St John’s School, Sector 26, here and did his 12th from Khalsa School, Sector 26. In 2018, he had attained All-India Rank 69 and had topped in Chandigarh in the NEET-UG examination. Despite having a great rank in the entrance test, Garg chose the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, since he wanted to live here itself, his father said.

Sanjeev Garg, Vaibhav’s father, is an Assistant Executive Engineer with the Haryana Power Generation Corporation and his mother Manju Garg is a teacher at the DAV Senior Secondary School, Surajpur.

“He has always been very dedicated towards his academics and his goal. He truly wants to excel in the field. While he was pursuing his studies at the GMCH, Sector 32, in 2021, his uncle passed away due to Covid in Delhi. That moved him a lot and he strived to become a true medical practitioner,” said Vaibhav’s father said.

Expressing joy over this remarkable feat, Vaibhav said he wanted to pursue MD in Medicine and would choose from the PGIMER Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi; and Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. The two institutions are considered one of the reputed medical institutions in the nation. “This is a dream come true for me. I studied hard but achieving the first rank all over India is truly amazing,” said Vaibhav.

Speaking regarding the demise of his uncle, he said, “The time was tough for everybody. I did my best and cared for my mother, father and my sister who contracted Covid virus. I had to manage my health as well since I was working in the GMCH. When my uncle passed away due to the virus, it affected me a lot. I decided to focus more on my studies and excel in the field to become a good doctor.”
