Proclaimed offenders among 13 held
The Proclaimed Offender (PO) and Summon staff of the Chandigarh Police has arrested 13 individuals, including one proclaimed offender and two accused under non-bailable warrants, and 10 persons in cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
The arrests were made on the directions of UT SSP, under the supervision of Vijay Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, with the operation led by Inspector Sher Singh, incharge of PO and Summon Staff.
The coordinated effort highlights the ongoing drive to trace and apprehend offenders evading the judicial process. Among those arrested is Ashok Kumar, son of Jagdish, a PO in a state case registered under FIR of 2021 at Police Station, Mauli Jagran. He was declared a PO by the court on August 10, 2022. He was presented before the court of Chinu Sharma, JMIC, Chandigarh, which remanded him to judicial custody. Two other accused, Nitish alias Nonu and Rohit alias Gulli, residents of Ram Darbar, were arrested in connection with a theft case registered at the Police Station-31.
In a focused crackdown on financial offenders, 10 individuals who were declared POs in separate cases under Section 138 of the NI Act were also apprehended. These include Ashwini Kumar of Lalru, Parmesh Kumar Yadav of Naya Gaon, Surinder Kumar Sethi of Sector 29B, Chandigarh, and Rajesh Kumar of Ram Darbar, among others.
All were produced before respective Judicial Magistrates First Class and were either granted bail or released on personal bonds.
