Innovative student-entrepreneurs and faculty members of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, have got a patent for their food-truck design.

As per an official statement issued by the MDU administration today, the intellectual property developed by Prof Ashish Dahiya, Sahil Saran and Mandeep Phogat has been officially accepted by the Controller-General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

“The patented design is part of the innovative project Dafeteria — a student-driven food truck incubated under the aegis of the Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at the MDU,” said the statement.

Professor Dahiya points out that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Startup Haryana and the university’s policy for innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship.

“The project integrates practical learning with product development, prototype testing, and the creation of intellectual property, fostering a hands-on entrepreneurial ecosystem on the campus,” he states.

MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh has congratulated the innovators as well as Prof Rahul Rishi for his mentorship through the CIIE.

“This patent will serve as a source of inspiration for countless budding entrepreneurs at the MDU and beyond. The university remains committed to nurturing a fertile ground for startups in line with the policies of the Government of Haryana and the Centre,” he remarked.

MDU Registrar Dr Krishan Kanth also lauded the achievement, stating that such milestones reinforce the university’s resolve to empower students with the tools, platforms and encouragement needed to build innovative ventures and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
