Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday reaffirmed her government’s commitment to transforming the national capital into a city that is not only clean and green but also emotionally connected to its people — a true “Dilwalon Ki Dilli.” She emphasised that making Delhi a model city would require both government action and citizens’ active participation.

Speaking at the launch of the book “Basics of Landscaping” at the Delhi Secretariat, CM Gupta said, “We want Delhi to be clean, the Yamuna to be pure and serene and the city to be lush with greenery. This dream cannot be fulfilled unless we all work together.”

She took a firm stance against the ongoing defacement of public spaces. “We do not want Delhi’s walls to be stained with unregulated paintings or covered with posters. We cannot allow this to happen,” the Chief Minister asserted, announcing that strict directives will soon be issued to prevent such defacement.

The event was attended by MP Manoj Tiwari, Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, book’s author Dr Ajay Kumar Kaushik, Delhi Police Special Commissioner Robin Hibu and other dignitaries.

In her address, CM Gupta said, “A city does not belong to the government alone. It belongs to its people. No government can keep a city clean without the involvement of its citizens.”

She appealed to every Delhiite to join hands in keeping the city spotless, emphasising that cleanliness is a form of patriotism.

Taking a dig at previous administrations, she said: “Earlier governments may have emptied Delhi’s treasury, but they failed to sweep away its dust. They made no real effort to beautify the city.”

Reaffirming her resolve to correct past neglect, she said her government would beautify every part of the Capital.

As part of her vision, the Chief Minister revealed plans to develop parks and walking tracks along the banks of the Yamuna, enabling people to enjoy nature and reconnect with the city’s heritage. She also spoke about transforming public perception by turning beautification into a civic mission: “Whenever someone visits me, I ask them — what will you do for Delhi? Because that is how change begins.”

CM Gupta concluded by underscoring that just as soldiers protect the nation at its borders, citizens must act as patriots by improving their city.
