Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu today said Rs 200 crore would be needed to rid the city of waterlogging problem.
During the Finance and Contract Committee meeting, he stated that discussions were also held on protecting various areas of Mohali from waterlogging.
“A survey conducted in this regard has revealed that the work will require an expenditure of Rs 200 crore. A letter is being written to the government requesting the release of the amount,” Sidhu claimed.
Regarding the preparation for the coming monsoon season, Sidhu said four zones have been created in Mohali for desilting of rainwater drainage pipes and tenders have been finalised for the same. Besides, the cleaning of weeds in the N-choe, a seasonal stream, will begin next week. Estimates for new works worth Rs 12 crore were approved, while work orders to the tune of Rs 13 crore were issued during the meeting.
