Patiala, January 21
The Patiala Municipal Corporation has decided to prepare a list of illegal buildings and colonies in the city amid complaints against officials of the building branch.
MC Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur said the charge of identifying buildings and colonies being constructed and developed in violation of building plans had been delegated to inspector Sunil Ghulati. He had been directed to submit the list at the office by February 14, she said.
She said her office had been receiving complaints against the inspectors of the building branch and the allocation of the charge had been done to instil fear among them.
She said, “We have been receiving complaints against the building inspectors that they have not been doing their work properly. Therefore, we have decided to appoint an inspector from the other branch to ensure that the work is done properly. The building inspectors have also not liked the idea.”
She said the charge had been given on a temporary basis and could be allocated to another official after a month.
Meanwhile, officials in the Municipal Corporation raised concern over complaints against the building inspectors and said an inquiry should be conducted over their working. An official requesting anonymity said, “A senior official of the level of Joint Commissioner having technical knowledge should be given the task of conducting an inquiry against all inspectors and ATPs instead of getting a survey of buildings and colonies conducted by an inspector of another branch.”
