Mohali: Ex-Army man arrested for espionage

The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Mohali, apprehended former Army man Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Village Mattar Uttar, Ferozepur, for his alleged involvement in espionage activities and for sharing sensitive and classified information related to Indian Army with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.

The accused, Gurpreet Singh, who is currently lodged in Ferozepur Jail in connection with a narcotics case. During his custody in Ferozepur Jail, he came in contact with a Pakistan-based individual. Acting on their directions, Gurpreet used his past military experience and contacts to obtain and transmit classified documents and strategic information.

The accused was brought to SSOC, Mohali, on production warrant, where during sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he had remained posted in sensitive border states during his service. Cops alleged that even while in judicial custody, Gurpreet Singh managed to exploit his old contacts to acquire classified information, which he transmitted to Pakistan handlers using discreet channels.
