Mohali, March 16

The District Administration has issued orders to shut down all private coaching institutes, IELTS schools, gymnasiums in the district as a precautionary measure in the wake of Covid-19 threat.

Aashika Jain, Officiating Deputy Commissioner-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), said orders have been issued under section 188 of the IPC and those found operating will be fined as per National Epidemic Act 1897.

Earlier, the Punjab government had issued the orders to close down all the cinemas, swimming pools and schools in the state.

Jain said concerned SDM’s have been directed to form teams to check functioning of schools, cinemas and swimming pools in their respective jurisdictions in order to ensure the implementation of government orders. They have been asked to submit report on daily basis, she added.

The ADC said they have also got all coaching institutes, IELTS schools and gymnasiums closed in the district with immediate effect and added all the permissions to hold processions, cultural events and public gatherings have also been declined. — TNS
