The state Education Department has come up with colourful report cards for students of Classes I to V.

These report cards have been given to teachers under the ‘Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab’ initiative for physical, social and intellectual development of children.

Teachers will fill details after evaluating students’ performances. These cards have pictures depicting various elements of the primary section along with various subjects. There will be columns for the marks obtained by a student in various set parameters.

The teachers have to maintain the record of every student. It is for the very first time that such kind of reports cards have been introduced for students studying in primary classes. Earlier, these cards were for pre-primary students.

Chander Shekhar, district mentor for English, said these cards would be handed over to parents at parent-teacher meetings.

“The colourful report cards will act as a parameter to provide teachers a clearer perspective regarding the strengths and weaknesses of a student. These cards have been distributed in primary schools, which will have a detailed account of development, growth and areas of improvement,” said Shekhar.

He said teachers had been asked to observe a child in all aspects — academic, sports, extracurricular activities, dedication towards environment and personal hygiene.
