Bihar poll, the BJP’s unfinished battle
The BJP has not cultivated caste affiliations among the social groupings that matter electorally.
WHEN the BJP emerged as the second largest party in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, winning 74 of the 243 seats in a fractured verdict, it had the satisfaction of turning in a good performance, being just one seat behind the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the single largest party. More to the point, the BJP was privately elated at beating the Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), its long-term ally, and relegating the party and its leader Nitish Kumar to the third place.
