Computer teachers to hold May Day rally in Ludhiana
Computer teachers will hold a state-level protest march in Ludhiana along with their families on Labour Day (May 1) to press for the acceptance of their demands. The Computer Adhyapak Sangharsh Samiti Punjab took the decision at a meeting held recently.
Hoshiarpur district president of the Samiti, Vishal Vini and secretary Kamal Mahi, informed that a large number of computer teachers will participate in the state-level protest. To make the protest successful, meetings are being held for mobilisation of workers at the block level. District leaders Raghubir Singh, Shaminder Kaur, Suman Bala and Ranjit Singh said that despite completing 20 years of service, 6,640 computer teachers in the state are still deprived of their rights. Due to the “anti-people policies” of the governments of the time, computer teachers are being troubled by the Finance Department and the Education Department, they alleged.
The present state government had promised in its election manifesto to regularise the services of computer teachers by merging them into the Education Department. On September 14, 2022, the Education Minister of Punjab assured to fulfill his election promise. But till now, like other employees, neither the Punjab Civil Services Rules nor the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations have been implemented for the computer teachers, nor has any financial benefit been given to the kin of 106 computer teachers who died during service.
In protest against the government’s breach of promise, the Computer Adhyapak Sangharsh Committee Punjab has decided to hold a state-level protest in Ludhiana on May 1 (Labour Day) with the support of their families and other supportive organisations. The protest march will be taken out from the DC office in Ludhiana to the office of AAP party candidate Sanjeev Arora, who is contesting the by-election.
