Chandigarh observed a shutdown after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for ‘Janata Curfew’ to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

People preferred to stay indoors and the roads were deserted in the city. Hardly any vehicles could be seen on the roads.

All markets, excluding medical stores, remained closed in the city.

Dispensaries and hospitals, however, remained open.

Popular markets in Sectors 19, 17, 22, 15, 34, 26 also remained shut. All parking lots were also empty. Only a few policemen and media persons were visible.

“We would like to stay indoors in the coming days as well due to the increasing threat of COVID-19,” said a resident.

Chandigarh has reported a total of six positive cases and the overall cases in the tricity are 11.
