A two-month-old boy hailing from Agra died of coronavirus at the SMS Hospital here in the wee hours of Thursday, taking the death toll up to 122 in Rajasthan since March.

The Covid-19 positive infant, who passed away of co-morbidity and congenital heart disease, was brought to Jaipur on Wednesday, Medical and Health Secretary (ACS) Rohit Kumar Singh said.

This is the second case of an infant death from the coronavirus. A 20-day-old boy had succumbed due to the virus at JK Lone Hospital on May 1.

So far, 177 migrants have been found Covid-19 positive in the bordering districts adjoining Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Since Wednesday night, the infected patients’ tally rose to 4,394 with 66 new coronavirus cases recorded in the state-run hospitals. Udaipur recorded 20 cases, Nagaur recorded 16 and Jaipur recorded 13. There were seven new cases in Jodhpur, three in Sikar, two each in Jalore and Ajmer, and one each in Kota, Alwar and Karauli.

All together, 2,575 patients have recovered, while 2,346 have been discharged. There are 1,697 active cases.

There have been 65 casualties in Jaipur, followed by 17 in Jodhpur, 10 in Kota 10, five in Ajmer, three each in Nagaur and Pali, two each in Alwar, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Sikar and Chittorgarh, and one each in Jalore, Churu, Karauli, Banswara, Pratapgarh, Sawaimadhopur and Tonk.

Eateries opening

Giving another relief to the business sector, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced to open eateries in the state, barring curfew-bound hot spots, from Thursday. Pick and carry facilities would be available to the customers and no one would be allowed to eat inside, the CM said in an official statement.

Radiographer posts

Viewing the Covid-19 emergency, the state government has approved 1058 new posts of Radiographers and directed the state PSC/ Rajasthan Employee Selection Board to fulfill these posts, along with other posts of clerks, fourth class employees and section officer grade posts, on priority.

International flights

The Union Government will operate 12 direct international flights to Jaipur for state residents residing in nine foreign countries, BJP state president Satish Poonia has said.

Flights would bring 2050 residents, mostly students from London, to Jaipur via Delhi on May 22. The flights include four from Kazakhstan, mostly medical students, while one each from UK, Cananda, Georgia, Kyrgystan, Tajikstan, Russia, Ukraine and Phillippines.

Meanwhile, the state government has ordered that the returnees showing Influenza-like Illness (ILI) symptoms will be quarantined at a state-run facility, while those with no symptoms will have to go through a 14-day home quarantine.
