Love jihad: UP moves SC for transfer of PILs
New Delhi: The UP Government has moved the Supreme Court seeking the transfer of petitions from the Allahabad High Court that challenge its ordinance aimed at checking unlawful religious conversion for inter-faith marriages. The state has invoked Article 139A of the Constitution that empowers the SC to transfer to itself cases “involving the same or substantially the same questions of law” pending before the SC and one or more high courts. — TNS
BBC apologises for ‘inaccurate’ map
London: The BBC on Tuesday apologised for any offence caused and rectified what it termed a mistaken use of an inaccurate map of India, which had the boundaries of J&K entirely missing, triggering a formal letter of complaint by Labour Party MP Virendra Sharma. In a video broadcast about President-elect Joe Biden on BBC, a graphic depicting the map of India was incompletely highlighted in red with the J&K missing. — PTI
