Rajeev Shukla replaces Roger Binny as BCCI head: Reports
Former India pacer and BCCI president Roger Binny has reportedly stepped down as head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) — India's richest sports association.
Various media reports cited that Rajeev Shukla, who has been serving as the Vice-President, has now been appointed as the acting chief until the next elections — which are expected to be held sometime next month.
The Apex Council meeting of the BCCI was held recently under Shukla’s leadership, where sponsorship was the key agenda, claimed sources. The meeting discussed the termination of Dream11’s contract and the search for a new sponsor for the next two-and-a-half years.
With the Asia Cup beginning on September 10, the BCCI is searching for new sponsors and looking ahead for a permanent deal.
In 2015, Shukla was unanimously re-appointed as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and on December 18, 2020, he was elected unopposed as BCCI’s vice-president. Binny turned 70 last month. However, he is still eligible to contest the upcoming elections and could return as BCCI president if re-elected.
