Rohit Sharma is set to continue as India’s Test captain for the upcoming five-match series against England.

According to reports from the Indian Express, the Indian selectors have backed Rohit’s leadership, citing his tactical acumen and leadership experience as key factors in the decision. His ability to manage pressure, rotate bowlers effectively, and set precise field placements impressed the BCCI. Rohit’s captaincy during the Champions Trophy, where he shuffled the spinners brilliantly to stifle opposition batters, played a crucial role in the board’s decision to continue with him at the helm.

Moreover, the board also recognised that playing in England requires patience, adaptability, and the ability to dictate the tempo of the game—qualities Rohit has demonstrated in recent white-ball successes. With India looking to claim their first Test series win in England since 2007, the selectors believe stability in leadership is essential.

Another major factor influencing the decision is the lack of captaincy alternatives. While young talents like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are promising, they lack experience in leading a Test side. KL Rahul, despite his credentials, has struggled with consistency and competition for spots in the playing XI, making him an uncertain choice.

Jasprit Bumrah, who captained in Rohit’s absence, has been hampered by recurring injuries. Given these limitations, the selectors see Rohit as the best available option to lead the team in the series against England.
