Cross-border smuggling module busted, 3 held

Acting on a tip-off, the Special Cell of Amritsar Rural Police have busted a cross border weapon smuggling module with the arrest of three persons and recovered two Glock pistols along with four mobile phones from their possession.

Those arrested included Aprildeep Singh, alias Babbu, Gurlal Singh, alias Pannu, and Balraj Singh, all residents of Rajoke border village.

DSP Gurinderpal Singh Nagra said as per a preliminary probe, the weapons were smuggled from Pakistan via drones.

“The accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through WhatsApp and other social media platforms,” he said. He said duo was produced in a court, which sent them to police custody.

The police sent their mobile phones for forensic examination, which would help in identifying backward and forward linkages.
