Cross-border narco-smuggling module busted in Amritsar; one arrested
In a significant success against cross-border drug trafficking, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested a drug smuggler and recovered over six kilograms of heroin along with drug money following an intelligence-led operation.
The accused has been identified as Shankar Singh, a resident of Guru Ki Wadali in Amritsar. The police recovered 6.286 kg of heroin and Rs 4 lakh in cash suspected to be drug proceeds.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Singh was in direct contact with foreign-based smugglers.
Director General Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav said his interrogation was expected to help trace the larger nexus and uncover both backward and forward linkages of the module.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Lopoke here.
The bust comes amid a spurt in the seizure of narcotics smuggled from Pakistan in the flood ravaged border district recently.
