Kingpin of highway robbers’ gang held after an encounter in Sonepat

An anti-gangster unit of the Sonepat police have arrested the kingpin of a highway robbers’ gang after a brief encounter near the toll plaza at Jakholi on the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) Expressway during a special night domination campaign. The campaign was organised in Sonepat on Saturday night ,where a highway robbery on July 2 in the Kundli area of Sonepat, was solved.

The accused has been identified as Danish, alias Golu of Katha village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, and the police had announced a reward of Rs 5,000 on his arrest. The police also recovered a pistol from his possession. The police immediately nabbed him after he sustained injuries during an encounter. Meanwhile, the Kundli police also arrested his accomplice, identified as Savej of Katha village in Baghpat, UP.

As per the police, Danish was the kingpin of a highway robbers’ gang and looted truck drivers and commuters on the KGP Expressway along with his accomplices Sahbuddin and Savej.

Danish has a criminal record and 12 cases were found registered against him at various police stations in Sonepat, Baghpat and Baraut of Uttar Pradesh. As per the police, Satbir of Gwalra village in Panipat in his complaint to the Kundli police on July 2 said he along with Ajay was on their way to Kanpur after loading his truck from Panipat. They stopped the truck on the KGP Expressway near the Yamuna to attend to nature’s call, when three youths came and attacked them.

The assailants robbed his purse containing Rs 5,900, driver’s licence and other important documents. As they shouted for help, the assailants ran away towards the fields. Ajay immediately called Dial-112 and the UP police reached there and nabbed one of the accused, Sahbuddin of Katha village, in an injured condition from the fields there.

Following the complaint, the Kundli police registered a case and began a probe into the matter. The Kundli police on Sunday arrested the third member of the gang Savej and produced him in court. The court sent him on two days police remand.
