Delhi Sikh body ends former president GK’s membership

The general house of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Friday terminated the membership of former DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK claiming that he had committed “financial irregularities”.
Denying the allegation, Manjit Singh GK said, “If even one rupee of irregularity is proved, I will pay double of that.”
GK has also termed the decision illegal as he is an elected representative and there is no provision in DSGMC rules to terminate his membership.
Accused of misappropriation of funds

Following a two-and-a-half-hour general house meeting, the DSGMC said the former president had been given a one-month period to deposit Rs 55 crore.
GK was elected member of the committee in 2017. Elections to the cash-rich body are slated to be held next year. The elections are conducted by the Gurdwara Election Commission under the Home Affairs Ministry.
DSGMC President Manjinder Singh Sirsa said there was a provision that a member could be terminated if two-third members vote for it.
The DSGMC also passed a resolution to recover the entire amount from GK. “In case he does not deposit the money, we will move court,” said Sirsa.
GK questioned the continuation of Sirsa as DSGMC chief. “A case is pending against him in the court. He should resign and face the charges,” GK added.
GK had quit the SAD led by Sukhbir Badal and formed his own outfit called the Jag Aasra Gur Ott (JAGO) party.
“The gurdwaras and religious institutions under the Sikh bodies have been asked to put up posters and hoardings outside their premises informing about the termination of GK,” said Sirsa.
The general house accused GK of misappropriation of gurdwara funds, passing fake bills, misuse of official cars for personal use and others.
GK alleged that Guru Harkrishan Public School, MS Block, Hari Nagar, had been handed over to president of Takht Sri Patna Sahib Avtar Singh Hit by the current president. However, Hit refuted all allegations.
