“The Chief Justice of India and the judges of the Supreme Court of India in a full court meeting held on January 19 have been pleased to designate the following advocates-on record/advocates as senior advocates with effect from January 19,” the top court said.

This is the first time that such a large number of lawyers are designated as senior advocates in one go. In 2021, the top court had designated 18 lawyers as senior advocates.

As many as 34 of the newly designated senior advocates, including 8 women, were first generation advocates.
