The two-day All India Winter Rose Show was inaugurated by the New Delhi Municipal Council NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal at the India-Africa Friendship Rose Garden in Chanakyapuri here on Saturday.

The event, organised by the NDMC, in collaboration with the Rose Society of India, showcases a stunning display of 92 varieties of roses in 198 sections, featuring 1,400 exhibits from over 200 participants.

Chahal praised the efforts of the Rose Society of India in organising the event, which sees active participation from both local and outstation exhibitors. The show highlights unique and vibrant blooms in various colours as well as potted plants. “In line with the vision of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for a ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ as a smart city, the NDMC is committed to creating a greener and more beautiful Delhi. The Rose Show is a step in that direction,” he said.

Chahal also reflected on the symbolism of the rose, stating, “The rose blooms amidst thorns, teaching us that despite life’s challenges, we should keep moving forward with a smile. One day, life’s beauty will shine.”

The exhibition features over 1,400 rose exhibits in categories like Standard, Floribunda and Miniature, with colours ranging from pink, red, yellow and orange to green and even black. Special attractions include greenhouse-grown roses and soil-less roses. Participants also include organisations like TERI, CPWD, HUDDA, IARI PUSA and others.

The event also hosted an on-the-spot painting competition for over 50 students from the NDMC and Navyug Schools. Winners were awarded certificates and trophies by Chahal.

The show will be open to public viewing on Sunday, December 22, from 10 am to 5 pm.
