18 children rescued from jute factory

The Delhi Police, in collaboration with the Departments of Revenue and Labour, and an NGO, rescued 18 children from a jute bag manufacturing company in the Bhajanpura area of North East Delhi, police officials said on Tuesday.
The police stated that most of the children were between the ages of 11 and 17 and were from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North East District, Dr Joy Tirkey, said action has been initiated against nine employers of the factory under Sections 75 (cruelty to a child) and 79 (exploitation of a child employee) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and Sections 3 and 14 (employment of children) of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.
The DCP said on August 5, they received information regarding child employment in the factory.
“A joint search and rescue operation was conducted in coordination with the SDM of Seelampur, the Revenue Department, the Department of Labour, NGO Sahyog-Care for You’, and the local police at Gamri village in Bhajanpura. During the search operation, 18 children were found,” he added.
The kids were employed in a jute bag manufacturing factory and printing work in the area of Gamri under the Bhajanpura Police jurisdiction
All children were medically examined later. They would be produced before the Child Welfare Committee, North East, the police said.
The arrested were identified as Aslat, Rajkumar, Vicky, Pintu, Sarvesh, Aehsan, Satender, Ansari and Sahil Dabas — all residents of Gamri village.
