2 girls among 5 killed in Burari building collapse
Five bodies, including of two minor sisters, were pulled out from the debris of a four-storey building that collapsed in north Delhi’s Burari area last evening, the police said on Tuesday, adding the property owner has been booked.
“A case has been registered under Sections 105, 110 and 3(5) of the BNS against building owner Yogendra Bhati and others,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said. The newly-constructed building near Oscar Public School collapsed late on Monday. So far, five bodies have been retrieved from the debris and 12 people have been rescued, they said.
The victims have been identified as Saadhna (17) and seven-year-old Radhika. The other three are Anil Gupta (42) and labourers Md Sarfaraz (22) and Md Qadir (40).
The police said the injured were identified as Lalta Prasad, his wife Savita and their six children - Ajay, Chhoti, Khushi, Priyanka, Sonia and Simran. Their other two children Saadhna and Radhika died, the police said.
The identities of the other injured are yet to be ascertained. Banthia said a rescue operation was still underway.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Delhi Police had said it received information about the collapse around 7 pm. The building was a new construction spread over 200 square yards.
Soon after the incident was reported to the Delhi Police and the Delhi Fire Services, a rescue operation was launched.
