2 Harry Boxer gang members arrested

With the arrest of two sharpshooters of the notorious Harry Boxer gang, the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Thursday claimed to have foiled the outfit’s entry into the national capital, where its members were allegedly planning to run rackets in extortion, kidnapping, and contract killings.

The police said gang leader Harry Boxer, a fugitive currently believed to be in the US, has been directing operations from abroad. “According to recent intelligence, Harry has also joined hands with the Rohit Godara gang to further expand his illegal activities across northern states,” an officer said.

The arrested men were identified as Kartik Jakhar (29) and Kavish Phutela (25), both residents of Sri Ganganagar district in Rajasthan. Two more associates, Manoj Saharan (21) and Pawan Kumar (30) from Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, were apprehended from Mohali, Punjab.

Their arrest came after specific inputs were received by the Special Cell following which a trap was laid near Dharmshila Hospital, in east Delhi, around 12:50 am on Thursday.

“When the motorcycle-borne suspects were intercepted, they tried to flee and opened fire at the police and in retaliation, the team fired back in self-defense in which Kartik sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was nabbed along with his associate Kavish,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P K Kushwah.

The duo was taken to a local hospital for treatment and their condition is said to be stable.

Kushwah further informed that the bike they were riding was found to be stolen from the Laxmi Nagar area.

He added that both Saharan and Kumar were tasked by Harry Boxer to carry out a firing on a Mohali businessman, who had earlier received a Rs 10-crore extortion threat in July but had refused to comply with the demands.

The Additional CP said that Jakhar has a long criminal history with cases of attempt to murder, extortion, and Arms Act violations registered against him in Rajasthan, Punjab, and Delhi.
