In a shocking case of a woman’s murder in Faridabad, it has come to light that her in-laws had buried her body in a pit in front of their house in Roshan Nagar. They had been misleading the police and even filed a missing report, however, after two months, the police dug out the body on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Tannu.
An FIR has been registered against four persons at the Palla police station. Sources said the police had taken the deceased’s husband and father-in-law into custody and were questioning them. Officials also handed over the body to kin after the post-mortem examination, which was conducted by a board of doctors at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital.
According to the police, the family of Bhoop Singh lives with his wife, Sonia, son Arun Singh and daughter Kajal. Arun got married to Tannu two years ago.
Hakim, Tannu’s father, said his daughter was being harassed by her in-laws as they had been demanding dowry. Following this, Tannu started staying at her parents’ house. However, after a panchayat was held, she was sent back to stay with her in-laws, who allegedly killed her.
During police investigation, Arun and his father called for an earthmover on the evening of April 23. They dug a 10-feet deep soak pit in the street in front of their house. On the next day when the mason came to fill the pit, the pit was filled with soil. When asked, the family said nothing needed to be done now. Then, people living nearby expressed doubts over the family’s actions. Two days later, the police were informed that Tannu had gone missing from her home and that she was mentally challenged.
Hakim came with his other daughter, Preeti, and raised doubt over the pit. They made several rounds and requested the police to investigate the matter. They had expressed their suspicion over Tannu’s murder on the same day, but the police did not take any action.
About a week ago, the police finally started investigating the case. On Friday morning, the pit was finally dug up under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Jaswant Singh and Tannu’s decomposed body was found inside the pit.
“If the police had listened to us earlier, my sister’s body would have been found two months ago. The police are totally negligent,” said Preeti, Tannu’s sister.
A spokesperson for the Faridabad police said they were conducting raids to nab the accused, who were absconding. The accused would be arrested soon, he said.
