Delhi Police arrested two criminals following an encounter in North West Delhi on the intervening night of March 21-22, officials said on Saturday.

The incident took place near the DDA Ground, Nirankari Bhavan, where the accused, identified as Vishal alias Badal and Kanhaiya alias Amit, were intercepted based on tip-off regarding their movements.

“When signaled to stop, the duo opened fire on the police in an attempt to flee. In retaliatory fire by the police, accused Vishal got injured in the leg. Both accused were arrested at the scene and immediately taken for medical treatment,” said DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh.

In a separate incident on the same night, one person was killed, and five others were injured in a stabbing at Patthar Wala Baag, Wazirpur JJ Colony, following a dispute between two groups. The argument, which began over a minor issue involving children, quickly escalated into violence.

“A PCR call was received at 10:58 pm regarding a stabbing incident. Upon reaching the scene, we found five individuals injured, including Radhe Shyam (65), who had suffered fatal stab wounds. He was taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said the DCP.

The injured victims are currently undergoing treatment, and the deceased's body has been sent for post-mortem. “This was a quarrel over children, and there is no communal angle involved,” the official added. A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered at Bharat Nagar police station, and further investigation is underway.
