20 Delhi cops honoured for exemplary service
As many as 20 Delhi Police personnel have been honoured for their exemplary contributions to the force. Three of them have been conferred with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, while 17 others got Medal for Meritorious Service on Saturday.
Additional Commissioner of Police Asif Mohammad Ali, Assistant Commissioners of Police Sanjay Dutt and Som Nath Paruthi were conferred with the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.
Asif Mohammad Ali, currently serving as Joint Director at the Delhi Police Academy, has been with the force since 1994 under the DANIPS cadre.
During his tenure, he has led the training of approximately 75,000 Delhi Police personnel and other stakeholders under the new criminal laws and skill-building initiatives. Through partnerships with institutions like the Rashtriya Raksha University.
Ali also represented the Delhi Police in the Internal Security Liaison Group during the 2010 Commonwealth Games and served in various international roles, including as an Assistant Haj Officer in Jeddah and as part of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, for which he was awarded the UN Medal.
Sanjay Dutt, who joined the police in 1989 as a Sub-Inspector, has been pivotal in counter-terrorism operations and tackling organised crime during his time with the Special Cell. He played a significant role in the neutralisation and arrest of operatives from terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
His efforts in investigating the Delhi serial bomb blasts earned him a promotion to Inspector in 2005. Recognised for his gallant acts, he has been awarded the Medal for Gallantry twice, as well as the Union Home Minister’s Medal for excellence in investigation.
While, Som Nath Paruthi, who joined the Delhi Police in 1994, has been instrumental in framing new standing orders, instructions and circulars to implement revised criminal laws.
His expertise earned him the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation in 2019, Utkrisht Seva Padak in 2020 and recognition for his exceptional contributions during the G20 Summit.
Seventeen other police personnel were awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service. They include Assistant Commissioners of Police Kamlesh Bisht, Harendra Singh, Manoj Kumar and Adarsh Kumar, Inspectors Rahul Kumar, Sheela Sharma, R Najma Tahira, Pradeep Singh and Bhupender Kumar, Sub-Inspectors Hardwari Lal, Rakesh Kothiyal, Prabha and Sumitra, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rekha Rani, Junaid Alam and Isidore; and Head Constable Siva Ramulu.
