The Dwarka district police have sent 23 foreign nationals for deportation after they were found living in India without valid visas, officials said on Friday.
According to the police, the action was taken during the month of October as part of an ongoing drive against foreigners overstaying or residing illegally in the district.
The foreign nationals were caught by teams from police stations in Bindapur, Dabri and Mohan Garden, along with the district’s Operations Unit.
Officials said 20 people were apprehended by the Bindapur police, two by the Dabri police and one by the Mohan Garden police.
All 23 individuals were later produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which ordered their deportation. They were subsequently sent to a detention centre.
The group includes nationals from Nigeria (15), Senegal (4), Ivory Coast (2), Tanzania (1) and Liberia (1). The police said they were either overstaying their visas or had entered India without valid documents.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said intelligence was regularly developed to identify foreign nationals staying illegally in the area, and similar checks would continue.
