A 24-year-old undertrial prisoner was killed in a violent assault inside the Saket Court lockup on Wednesday, in what police believe was the result of an old enmity.

The incident occurred in Kharja No. 5 of the Saket Court complex, where multiple undertrial prisoners were held prior to their court appearances.

The deceased, identified as Aman, son of Dharmender and a resident of Govindpuri, Delhi, was lodged in connection with an attempted murder case of the Govindpuri police station.

“He had been brought to court for a routine production hearing,” DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said.

According to the officer, Aman was attacked by two fellow undertrial prisoners —Jitender, alias Jitte, and Jaidev, alias Baccha — inside the lockup.

A man sustained serious injuries during the assault and was immediately sent for a medical examination. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack stemmed from a personal grudge.

The officer said Jitender and Aman had a history of animosity dating back to a 2024 incident outside the jail premises, in which Aman allegedly assaulted Jitender and his brother with a knife.

An inquiry into the incident is underway, and additional security measures in court lockups are expected to be reviewed, the officer added.
