3 cops among 5 held for taking Rs 20 lakh bribe

A woman Sub Inspector (SI), two of her subordinates and two civilians were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a doctor.

According to the police, SI Neetu Bhist, posted at Paschim Vihar East police station, was caught red-handed on the station’s premises after the Outer District police laid a trap on the request of the complainant. The two other police personnel arrested include a Head Constable and a Constable.

According to the official, the complainant, who runs an educational consultancy firm, said on July 25, three men forcefully entered the premises and accused the complainant of running his business illegally. Then they forcefully, took the complainant to a police booth in Peeragarhi without any legal backing, the cop added.

The official said the police personnel asked him for Rs 50 lakh, and the SI called him and threatened dire consequences if he lodged a complaint. After negotiations, the complainant allegedly agreed to pay Rs 20 lakh as the first instalment.

Atrap was laid and all five of them were arrested.
