Though the police have questioned Gaganpreet Kaur Makkad (38), the person behind the wheel at the time of the mishap, and her husband Parikshit Makkad, the couple said they do not know what led to the accident.

Parikshit told investigators that he could not explain how the accident occurred. After the crash, Gaganpreet told him that she was taking injured persons - Navjot Singh and his wife Sandeep Kaur - to the hospital in a taxi. He left for home with their children in another taxi.

According to the police, the taxi driver, who took the victims to the hospital, in his statement said despite repeated requests to take Navjot to a nearby facility, Makkad, a resident of Gurugram, insisted on going elsewhere. His family members have alleged that timely treatment could have saved his life.

Meanwhile, van driver Gulfam, who rushed the injured persons to the hospital, claimed that the police had seized his vehicle for investigation, depriving him of his daily income. The Delhi Police, however, rejected the claim, saying the vehicle had not been seized.

According to Delhi Police, medical reports confirmed that Makkad was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The blood sample report of the accused was reported to be negative for alcohol.
