3 held for killing DTC bus driver in road rage
Accused were frequently changing locations to avoid arrest
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested three men accused of killing a DTC bus driver during a road rage incident in Aman Vihar here on December 6, officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Vikas (27). He was the sole breadwinner of his family. The accused - Harsh Kumar (23), Rohan (26) and Raju (49), all residents of Mundka, had been on the run since then.
The police received a PCR call regarding a fight during a wedding procession around 11.20 pm on Saturday.
“A police team reached the Shiv Chowk area where it was found that a fight broke out between a DTC bus driver and a man attending the wedding, who was driving an Alto, over lack of passage and the congestion on road,” an official said.
The altercation turned violent, following which the bus driver was beaten. He later succumbed to his injuries, an official said.
A case in this regard was registered at the Aman Vihar police station and investigation was initiated.
A day after the incident, the victim’s relatives and DTC staff blocked the UER-II highway demanding action against the accused.
The case was transferred to the Crime Branch and a team started tracking the suspects.
According to the police, the accused were frequently shifting locations across Delhi to avoid arrest. Through sustained technical surveillance and field intelligence, the team traced them to the Karala area and the trio was arrested on Monday.
The police said the men confessed that they had been hiding since the incident. Legal proceedings are underway.
