The police have arrested three suspects in connection with the armed robbery at the Manappuram Gold Loan branch on Sheetla Mata Road, where 8.54kg of gold jewellery and Rs 8.56 lakh in cash were stolen. The robbery occurred on Saturday evening when five armed men, posing as auditors, entered the branch. One disguised as a Sikh gained entry wearing the company’s ribbon, lowering staff suspicion. The robbers then forced the staff to close the branch and attacked employees Shri Krishna, Girendra Sindhu and security guard Pradyuman Patel with the butt of a gun. They looted 323 packets of gold jewellery worth about Rs 9 crore.
Three accused — Mohan (22) and Sunil (20) from Sonipat and Rahul (21) from Karnal — were arrested near Dhankot village on Tuesday. They admitted to committing the crime alongside other associates, using a Bolero car that broke down nearby. Mohan has six pending cases including attempt to murder. The accused will be produced in court, and further arrests and recovery of stolen goods are expected.
